A Parkchester man was found dead in his apartment Monday, and his son was spotted being led away from the scene in handcuffs.
Police responded to a call for an emotionally disturbed man with a weapon in a second-floor apartment at at 1530 Metropolitan Ave. They say they tried to gain entry but were not able to.
Neighbors say the victim's son locked himself in his room. According to police sources, they made contact with the son, who was escorted out through the window. When police finally made it inside, the father was dead with cuts on his body.
The son was taken away in handcuffs shortly after. Sources say he is being questioned by police.
A woman who lives on the same floor as the family says the father had schizophrenia. They say the father had an episode a few weeks ago and was recently released from the hospital.
Detectives were seen at the building hours afterward trying to piece together what happened.
Police sources say the death is being investigated as a suicide.
