NYC Ferry's arrival in Coney Island brings mixed reactions

Residents are weighing in on a proposal to bring NYC Ferry to Coney Island, with some excited for a new form of transportation, while others have environmental concerns.
The announcement of NYC Ferry's continued expansion brought positive reactions for those who endure the hourlong trip from Coney Island to Wall Street via other transportation.
Others voiced concerns that placing the ferry's landing in Coney Island Creek because the polluted body of water has known toxic substances at the bottom. Differing concerns include added congestion and the inconvenience of the landing's location.
A spokesperson from the New York City Economic Development Corporation tells News 12 in a statement, "NYC Ferry's primary goal is to ease commuting for New Yorkers that live in far-flung communities that lack affordable and efficient transit options, which is why the landing will be sited on the creek side where the majority of the Coney Island peninsula's residential core is."
NYC Ferry Service in Coney Island is slated to launch in 2021. The public comment period will end on July 1.
