ROOSEVELT -

A Roosevelt man has been arrested and is accused of scamming a senior citizen out of $8,000.

Police say George Rodriguez has been arrested in connection with the scam.

According to police, a call was made to an 85-year-old man Monday, saying his grandson had been arrested in Atlantic City and needed money.

The victim withdrew the cash and brought it to a location on Plandome Road in Manhasset.

The victim received another call Tuesday, asking for another $5,000 for legal fees.

This time, the man called police, who showed up and took Rodriguez into custody.

Police say they are still looking for the men behind the phone calls.
