Police: Woman stabs man 3 times on their first date

A Newark woman is facing charges after she allegedly stabbed a man she met online during their first in-person date.
Newark police say that 23-year-old Zaniya Stevens stabbed her date three times during an altercation while visiting his apartment. Police say Stevens flagged police officers down around 2 a.m. Thursday to tell them about the stabbing. Officials say that she told the officers that she was choked and stabbed the man in self-defense.
Police say they found no evidence of any neck injuries.
Stevens and the victim met each other on social media and had several exchanges before Stevens was invited to the victim’s apartment.
Stevens is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The victim sustained injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
