Councilman Justin Brannan is calling on National Grid and Con Edison to clean up materials left behind from a construction project, tweeting out pictures of the materials left on the street in Bay Ridge.

The councilman says the construction debris takes up parking spots, and is a safety concern for pedestrians who have to walk around it.

"I know this work needs to be done, I appreciate that they are getting the work done. But once it's done, they gotta clean up their stuff and get out of here, and it needs to be returned to the way that it looked before they started. It's really not a lot to ask,” says Brannan.
Bay Ridge residents say they are concerned about the debris.

"You can't even find a parking spot because they're taking up all the available parking that we do have. Sometimes they're on the bus stop, you have to step outside, you know, just to get on to the bus. it's not safe,” said resident Tamara Stern.
The councilman says he wants to create a law that would allow contractors to be held responsible for the construction materials they leave behind by charging them a fine.
National Grid released a statement saying, "Safety is our top priority, we are committed to minimizing the impact of our work in the local communities and addressing any concerns." The company added it does not currently have a project at the location in question.
News 12 also reached out to Con Edison for comment, but is still awaiting a response.
