Police: Multiple people hospitalized when car runs stop sign, hits trolley bus

Suffolk police say multiple people were hospitalized when a car ran a stop sign and crashed into a trolley bus that was heading to a wedding.
It happened around 2 p.m. Sunday in East Islip at the intersection of Union Boulevard and Hardwood Avenue. Police say a woman driving an Alfa Romeo vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, then collided with the trolley bus, which was heading west on Union Boulevard.
The Alfa Romeo vehicle then struck a pole, causing wires to come down.
Police say the trolley bus was carrying 11 passengers and a driver. They say five occupants from the bus were taken to Southside Hospital with minor injuries.
The Alfa Romeo driver also suffered minor injuries and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. Police say she was issued a summons for failing to stop at the stop sign.
The identities of those involved were not released.
