Throgs Neck residents rally against proposed counseling center

Throgs Neck residents protested against a proposed counseling center Saturday.
Residents previously protested against the center in 2017 at 2800 Bruckner Blvd. Assemblyman Michael Benedetto and City Councilman Mark Gjonaj have joined in their protest.
Miracle City LLC says that it's a provider of home and community-based behavioral health services on its website. The organization is looking to secure an 822 license from the state, which would give it the option to provide holistic outpatient care.
Community members say they fear the organization will turn into an outpatient center that is capable of housing people and administering drugs like methadone.
Protesters say the organization claims they won't actually house patients or distribute drugs.
Benedetto and Gjonaj have sent a letter of opposition to the New York state Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, which would provide the 822 license.
In the letter, the elected officials say they cite an abundance of similar programs in the area, a lack of public transportation, and multiple nearby schools including one with a program for children with special needs.
News 12 reached out to Miracle City LLC for comment. The community board will be informed once the organization files for a 822 license.
