AAA says 40 percent of sampled Long Islanders expect to make some changes to accommodate rising gasoline prices.

Experts say gas has crept up about 26 cents since March to an average around $3 per gallon on Long Island.

Robert Sinclair, of AAA, says the rise could lead to lifestyle changes and less driving for some people.

AAA attributes the hike to three factors: Crude oil prices have continued to rise as the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has cut production; a "summer blend" of gas is introduced in March and causing prices to rise; and more people tend to travel during the spring and summer, leading to an increase in demand.

News 12 spoke with some drivers who say a seasonal hike is unfair. And others say they're forced to pay no matter the cost.

Gas prices are expected to keep rising through Memorial Day.
