NY Assembly OKs measure to catch drivers going around stopped school buses

The New York state Assembly has approved a measure that calls for new cameras to catch drivers who go around stopped school buses.
If the law passes, drivers would pay a $250 fine if they're caught on camera passing a stopped bus. A camera would go on the stop sign on the side of the school bus that extends when kids are getting on or off the bus.
Officials say across New York state, 50,000 drivers illegally pass school buses every day.
Assemblyman Michael LiPetri is a co-sponsor of the bill. He says it's time to change drivers' reckless conduct.
Drivers who spoke with News 12 agree, saying the safety of children comes first.
LiPetri says the state Senate is working on a similar bill to put cameras on school buses, with a few minor differences. But he says both the Senate and Assembly have to agree on identical bills before they can go before Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
