Police: Woman sexually assaulted after being followed into Prospect Heights building

A seemingly innocent encounter turned into to a sexual assault incident in Prospect Heights Sunday.
It happened inside a building near Underhill Avenue and Saint John’s Place just before midnight.
Police tell News 12 a 27-year-old woman was trying to go inside her building when a man standing nearby asked her for a lighter.
After the victim gave the man a light, that is when police say the situation took a turn. They say the woman had gone inside her building only to find that the man had followed her inside and to her floor. They say he pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her in the hallway. Police say she fought back, pushing the attacker off of her before he ran away.
Police tell News 12 that EMS treated the victim on the scene and that she was released shortly after.
The suspect is described as being 5 feet 7 inches and around 200 pounds.
