Community Board 8 takes action against drivers near P.S. 81

Community Board 8 took action Tuesday night against drivers who make illegal left turns near P.S. 81 in Riverdale.
Drivers are not supposed to turn left onto West 256th Street from Mosholu Avenue between 7-9:30 p.m. on school days, but residents say drivers disregard the sign and make the turn anyway.
Residents also say parents double and triple park, blocking their driveways.
Community Board 8 passed a resolution that it hopes will rectify the problems. Some of their requests include "No Standing" signs on the south side of West 256th Street between Delafield and Mosholu avenues between 7-9 a.m. to alleviate congestion. The Community Board is also asking the city Department of Transportation to install left turn signals at West 256th Street and Riverdale Avenue.
In addition, CB8 requested a “chirping” signal to improve pedestrian safety.
The DOT told News 12 that it is looking forward to reviewing the requests.
