A Bronx woman is honoring her roots by documenting the New York Latin experience, one throwback picture at a time.
Djali Brown-Cepeda is behind a successful Instagram account called Nuevayorkinos, a dedication to the city's Latinx community.
A second-generation Dominican-American herself, Brown-Cepeda said she saw a lack of visual representation for the Latin experience.
"For me, it's so important to kind of just build community and show people that we have existed," says Brown-Cepeda.
The page pays homage to immigrants and allows fellow New Yorkers to share their personal photos with their own stories behind them.
The account acts as a social photo album that provides brighter posts on social media, something Brown-Cepeda feels is needed now more than ever.
"They're also a way to kind of act as a medicine to all the hatred and sadness that is surrounding our community at the moment," says Brown-Cepeda.
