NYPD: Possible explosive turns out to be homemade anchor
The possible explosive that closed the Metropolitan Bridge and triggered a large police presence around the Newtown Creek turned out to be a homemade anchor, police say.
The NYPD says it received a call about a suspicious package floating in the water Friday morning near 1106 Grand St.
It was reported that a possible sea mine had washed up at a Department of Environmental Protection facility, prompting police to ask the public to avoid the area.
After completing its investigation, the NYPD deemed that there was no danger to the public.
