Cuomo, others try to woo Amazon back to NY
An all-out effort is underway by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and business and labor leaders to woo Amazon back to New York.
Lawmakers, businesses, university officials and unions even put together an open letter to Amazon in the New York Times.
"New Yorkers do not want to give up on the 25,000 permanent jobs...and $28 billion in tax revenue," the letter says in part. It adds that they are "committed to figuring out how to get it done in a way that works for everyone."
State Sen. Todd Kaminsky says Long Island's Senate delegation is on board to bring Amazon back to Long Island City, Queens, calling it "a general failure" that the deal couldn't come to fruition.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran is also in favor of salvaging the deal, saying it would keep young people on Long Island.
Critics of the deal say the massive tax incentives offered to Amazon were too much.
So far, Amazon has shown no signs of reconsidering its pullout.
