Boogie Down Bites: Flava Lounge Restaurant
A Melrose restaurant is serving up Caribbean dishes healthy-style.
Flava Lounge Restaurant is a family owned restaurant that focuses on healthy entrees that are full of flavor.
The restaurant is owner Harry Headman's newest eatery. Unlike his other Caribbean take-outs, this one encourages customers to stay for a while.
"We want to give [a] Caribbean vibe where you can find full service," says Headman.
Upstairs, the restaurant will be offering Zumba classes to complement its sleek decor on the ground floor.
In the kitchen, there is a whole new approach to island food.
"People enjoy the food while they are still eating clean," says Headman.

Which means less salt and starch and saturated fats.

"We use herbs and spices to give flavor to the food without using butter and salt," says Headman.
Many dishes are vegan-friendly, including the cauliflower steak that is made with half a head of cauliflower, peppers, onions, cumin and curry.
"We want to have that in the Bronx where you don't have to go to Manhattan to get good healthy vegan food," says Headman.
