Nassau County legislators are considering a bill to mandate criminal background checks for many hotel and motel employees.
The first-of-its-kind legislation would apply to any worker with access to guest rooms or room keys.
Officials say it's all about making guests feel safe.
If approved, employees would have to be screened every three years after the initial background check.
