Commuters face platform confusion at Central Islip LIRR

Commuters in Central Islip say they are being inconvenienced in the morning now that they have to cross over the tracks to take their city-bound train.
Last year, the LIRR added a second track between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma with the aim to ease service in the area.
Before the change, east and westbound trains shared the same platform, where there is a ticket kiosk, a waiting room and a parking lot.
Commuters say now have to cross over to the other platform via an overpass or over the roadway. Some commuters say they have seen people through the roadway crossing while the crossing gate was down.
The MTA says the station now functions like a majority of other stations with an east and westbound platform. News 12 asked if they were considering building a waiting room on the platform, they said they would look into that.
The LIRR told News 12 in a statement: "We encourage customers to cross using the overpass, or plan ahead to leave enough time to make the street-level crossing safely."
