The Department of Education says a high school basketball coached who is facing charges for allegedly shooting the parent of a player has been reassigned.
The incident happened back on Dec. 22. Police say 42-year-old Todd Myles, the head basketball coach at Paul Robeson High School, is charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal use of a firearm and other charges.
According to police, parent showed up at Myles' home back on Dec. 22 to find out why their child was not getting more time playing basketball. News 12 is told that at some point, the parent was shot, and Myles was grazed in the leg.
That parent could not be interviewed right away due to the serious nature of his injury. Police say once the parent made a statement, and after viewing surveillance video, investigators determined that Myles was the primary aggressor and was arrested.
In a statement, a Department of Education spokesperson says, "These are incredibly shocking allegations. We immediately reassigned Mr. Myles away from students and we'll work to remove him from payroll as soon as legally possible. We are providing support to the school and are working with the NYPD throughout this investigation."
Myles was arraigned Saturday and ordered held on $150,000 bond.
News 12 is told he began as a substitute at Paul Robeson back in 2001, and he became a teacher in 2004. He apparently has no prior disciplinary history.
