School districts across Long Island are facing a pressing need for substitute teachers, according to Newsday.

District administrators are partnering with universities to find recent graduates, and are also holding job fairs and increasing pay.

Officials blame the need on fewer people seeking teaching degrees.

According to the state's teachers union, enrollment in teacher education programs dropped 47 percent in just six years.
