Program honoring Junior aims to keep kids away from gang violence

A holiday celebration in Belmont honored Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz and opened an after-school program to help area children.
The Mount Carmel Teen Project is a way to keep kids busy, help them learn about the arts and get ready for their future while keeping them away from gang violence.
Junior's mother Leandra Feliz was in attendance and expressed thanks for the initiative.
Councilman Ritchie Torres secured $70,000 in funding for the program.
Organizers say the program is free and will run throughout the school year. Parents can still sign their kids up to get involved.
At Friday's celebration, people had the chance to listen to music performed by program members and learn what the initiative is all about.
