Friday's heavy rain brought holiday getaway woes for travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport, where dozens of flights were delayed or canceled during one of the busiest air travel stretches of the year.
By 4 p.m., some 300 flights had been delayed and more than 50 canceled.
The FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center says that due to weather and wind, a traffic management program was in effect for flights arriving at the airport. It caused some flights to be delayed an average of an hour and 15 minutes.
TSA says there are 6 percent more travelers this year than last.
Some travelers say they were rebooked several times.
Officials were urging travelers to leave early to arrive at the airport.
Travelers say they missed flights due to the traffic from the storm.
