Family hits roadblock trying to get street co-named after legendary restaurant

A local family is hitting a roadblock trying to get a Kingsbridge street co-named after their legendary restaurant, Loeser’s Deli.
Fredy Loeser has owned Loeser’s Deli on West 231st Street in Kingsbridge for 60 years.
In honor of his legacy, his daughter created a petition to get a street co-named “Loeser’s Deli Place.”
Community Board 8 voted last week 33-0 to not consider co-naming streets after businesses despite more than 700 signatures in favor of it.
The Community Board does not have authority to co-name streets – that’s up to the City Council. It can only make recommendations.
Andrew Cohen, the councilmember for the area, reviewed the proposal.  His office told News 12 that “he believes that this business has served the North West Bronx and Kingsbridge community for a significant length of time and Council Member Cohen is in support of an approval for this street co-naming."

The City Council will vote on 2019 street co-namings at this week’s scheduled meeting.
