Stratford police say speed may have been a factor in a car accident Saturday that killed one person and injured another in Stratford.
"Speed may be a factor. We're looking into that now," says Lt. Frank Eannotti.
Police say a car and pickup truck collided at the intersection of Nichols and Glenfield avenues, sending the car into a fence near Lincoln Avenue just before 11:30 p.m. The car caught fire and both vehicles were severely damaged. Officers say they tried to rescue the 51-year-old driver from the car, but were unsuccessful.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was shut down for hours while police investigated.
The truck driver is still in serious condition at Bridgeport Hospital.
Police say they will be seeing if anyone will be charged as a result of the accident.
They also say they're waiting on the medical examiner's report before releasing the names of the drivers.
