East Rutherford police say that at least four people have come forward to admit that they grabbed money that fell out of an armored truck on Route 3 Thursday morning.
Capt. Phil Taormina says that it is believed that the Brink’s armored truck had an issue with the lock on one of its doors and spilled the money around 8:30 a.m. near MetLife Stadium.
Videos posted on social media showed a man in uniform running through traffic trying to collect money. Police say people exiting cars to grab cash led to two crashes.
It wasn’t clear how much money fell out of the truck, but police say that nearly $10,000 has been returned. Authorities say that they are hoping more people will come forward.
Police tweeted that anyone with information or video of the incident should contact them at 201-438-0165.
Brink’s confirmed that the truck is theirs but declined further comment.
The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
