Surveillance cameras captured so-called "porch pirates" stealing packages from homes in East Northport and Deer Park.
In video from a home on Montrose Lane in East Northport, a woman is seen pulling into the driveway, parking her dark-colored Honda, strolling to the front door and leaving with about seven packages.
Suffolk County police say they arrested 60-year-old Deborah Amato, of Northport, a few hours after theft and charged her with petit larceny. News 12 is told that she was released on bail.
Over in Deer Park, police say a masked man made off with Christmas gifts from a home on West 24th Street. That homeowner says they installed cameras about a week ago after a prior package theft.
Police recommend having packages delivered to a family member or friend who will be home, or to a workplace if possible. People can require a signature on delivery or use higher-tech options like smart lockers to store delivered packages until they're picked up.
