NY volunteers travel to California with Red Cross to help in wildfire efforts

As the flames rage on across California, people from New York are making the trip across the country to help.
Six members of the Red Cross from the New York chapter are in a group traveling to helping those displaced in Butte, California.

"I have been talking with people and just hearing harrowing stories of escape through flames and folks that are terrified for their lives who made it to safety people who are worried about loved ones,” says Michael De Vulpillieres, of the American Red Cross.

The death toll as of Thursday night was 56.

The Red Cross tells News 12 that volunteers in this group will spend two to three weeks helping. They will be managing food and supplies and providing physical and mental health services.
