Plaques honoring student athletes defaced with racial, homophobic graffiti

Hillsdale police are investigating hateful graffiti found at Pascack Valley High School.
Police say that homophobic and racial slurs were written on the baseball dugout on some plaques honoring former student athletes.
The vandalism was discovered Monday and has since been removed.
School officials say that this isn’t the first time this type of incident happened at the school. A few weeks ago swastikas were drawn in the boy’s bathroom stalls.
“We believe this to be isolated to one or perhaps a couple of individual students in the building. It’s certainly a cowardly, yet hateful act,” said school Superintendent Peter Erik Gundersen. “We will combat this. We are better than that and this does not represent the Pascack Valley community.”
Hillside police say that they are searching for more possible suspects.
