Nassau police boat honors victims of 9/11-related illnesses

Nassau dedicated a new Marine Bureau patrol boat Wednesday in honor of the seven county police officers who have died of illnesses related to Sept. 11.
The high-speed, high-tech boat was christened the "9/11 Heroes."
Debbie Palermo and her children say they were touched by the police department's tribute. Palermo's husband Luis, and the six other honored officers, performed rescue and recovery work in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.
A plaque mounted inside the boat features the names of the seven officers.
State grant money paid for the boat. It's set to begin patrolling the South Shore immediately.
