Police: Elderly man beaten, robbed in Parkway rest stop
New Jersey State Police are looking for the public’s help to identify a man accused of beating and robbing an elderly man inside a rest stop bathroom.
Police say that the robbery happened inside the Cheesequake Service Area along the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville early Thursday morning.
The suspect is seen entering the rest stop around 3:15 a.m. Police say that he punched the victim several times, threw him to the ground and stole the man’s wallet.
Images of the suspect were captured on the rest stop’s surveillance cameras. He is a black man, who was wearing a black knit cap, white shirt and dark pants. He also had safety glasses on his head.
Police say that he left the rest stop and headed northbound on the Parkway. A witness told police that he was driving a dark blue car, possibly a Lexus, Toyota or Nissan. The car had New Jersey license plates.
Anyone who may recognize the suspect should call New Jersey State Police at 732-441-4500 ext. 7425. Anonymous tips are welcome.
