Cardi B hands out 500 free winter coats in Brooklyn

Rapper Cardi B was in Brooklyn Thursday, meeting fans and handing out 500 free coats to children.
The Bronx-born star stopped by the Marlboro Houses in Gravesend, where she was presented with a key to the complex and a birthday cake. She then visited residents and worked with others to give out new leather jackets, donated by Daniels Leather.
The visit was in support of the nonprofit organization Game of Life, whose mission is to offer youth an alternative to drugs and crime through basketball.
The organization’s founder, Maurice Ballard, says that the best way to reach young people is through the celebrities they look up to.
“Kids that live here, they really worship [Cardi B,] like that's their role model,” says Marlboro Houses resident Yomaree Bryant.
Ballard says he would like to partner with more celebrities for future events.
