A woman from India who was visiting Westchester for a wedding died in a crash in Tarrytown this weekend.
Police say Bina Chopra was killed and three others were injured after the driver lost control on Route 9 Saturday night. They say the car left the roadway, went up onto the property of the Washington Irving School, flipped over, and ended up in a backyard of the home at 5 Park Ave.
Chopra was pronounced dead at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. The other three people in the car were also taken to the medical center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
George Hofgartner was out walking his dogs Saturday night when he heard a car fly past him on Route 9. He says seconds later, that vehicle veered off the road.
Neighbors say the driver must have been going about 60 mph before he lost control of the car, hit the fence, sideswiped two trees and then wound up in the garden.
Hofgartner’s wife, Gloria, was home at the time. She says she ran outside and saw a woman trapped in the car.
"We saw the person bleeding and then all of a sudden the firetrucks came and the ambulance,” she says.

Gloria Hofgartner says dozens of cars have crashed into her fence in the past, but this is the first fatal accident.
