Two Medford men are accused of carrying out a rash of armed robberies in their own community.
Suffolk police say 22-year-old Joseph Montesano and 28-year-old Joseph Fooks went on a two-week crime spree, holding up gas stations and convenience shops in the Medford area dating back to Oct. 2. The duo is accused in four armed robberies and one attempted robbery in less than two weeks.
They allegedly tried to hold up a Speedway station on Oct 2. When they were unsuccessful, police say they held up the USA gas station a few feet away on Route 112. They're also accused of targeting a Bolla Market and a BP station, both on Route 112, a few days later.
Last night, police say the Dunkin' Donuts in the Dollar Tree Shopping Center on Horseblock Road was robbed. Five hours later, police say Montesano was arrested under 2 miles away on Route 112 in Medford.
Investigators say they identified the robbery pattern and began patrols in locations that could fit the pattern, including convenience stores and gas stations.
Police say they are investigating whether the men also committed other recent robberies, including one at a convenience store in Medford in which a clerk was hit in the face with a gun.
Montesano, who was already out on parole for prior robberies, was ordered held on $50,000 bail today. Fooks was being held on $40,000 bail.
