News 12’s Walt Kane previously reported that it is possible to save money on prescription drugs by asking around.
“I think people need to shop around. The prices do vary tremendously between [pharmacies,]” says News 12’s Dr. Derek DeSilva.
There may also be cheaper, alternative medications. For people with prescription coverage, it may also be cheaper to pay cash for generic prescriptions, instead of going through insurance.
Previously, pharmacists were not allowed to tell customers about cheaper options for drugs. But President Donald Trump recently signed two bills that would end that. This means pharmacists will be allowed to tell customers about cheaper options.
“You have to be proactive and look and see where and how you're going to save some money,” DeSilva says.
In other consumer news – Google recently announced its social media platform Google Plus will be shutting down.
Google has been catching heat for not disclosing a security bug that may have affected as many as 500,000 accounts. It says it didn't have to tell anyone because there's no evidence any information was misused.
But Google apparently decided the service was more trouble than its worth. Except for paid business customers, Google Plus will be shut down next August.
