Some New Jersey veterans were treated to free dental care Thursday as a thank you for serving the nation.
It is a part of Freedom Day USE, a program in the dental industry to offer free services to veterans each Oct. 11.
Vietnam War veteran Herbert Norris, 77, took advantage of the program.
“This is absolutely a godsend,” he says.
Some veterans tell News 12 New Jersey that they do not have health insurance. Programs like this make it so that they are able to get the help that they need.
Dentist Jason Goldberg says that he is participating in the program for the first time this year. He says that several veterans came to his practice for care.
“Just a strong sense of appreciation. It’s just a great feeling when they come in and you can help somebody out,” Goldberg says.
Freedom Day USA was started six years ago. The organization says that about 1,000 businesses participate in the program.
