Two people are facing charges after crashing a car with stolen mail inside, according to police.
Westport police say they spotted a suspicious car on Post Road early Monday morning and that's when a chase ensued. The car ended up crashing into a flower bed on Morningside Drive North. Police say they found stolen mail from all over town inside the car.
Police arrested 20-year-old Daisha Haynes, of Bridgeport, and Joyan Boyd, 27. They say Haynes was the driver and Boyd was a passenger in the car.
According to police, the two fled the car and got picked up by friends a few miles away at the Shake Shack on Post Road. Police later tracked them down.
Police urge residents not to leave their mail outside with the flag up.
"And we urge people not to leave their outgoing mail outside their house overnight with the flag up, kind of alerting people that there's outgoing mail in there," says Lt. Jillian Cabana, of the Westport Police Department.
Haynes and Boyd were released on $1,500 bond and are scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the postal inspectors at 877-876-2455.
