Arora demands more debates against Rep. Himes

The Republican challenger in the race for the 4th Congressional District is demanding more debates before Election Day.

Republican Harry Arora is trying to unseat Rep. Jim Himes. The two are already scheduled for three debates, which Himes' campaign says is standard.

However, when Himes first ran for office against Chris Shays the two faced off in seven debates.

Arora, who is a hedge fund manager, says voters deserve a choice and that means seeing both sides debate.

"The whole idea is let's make sure that Harry Arora's campaign -- that the challenger's campaign gets no visibility, gets no coverage," says Arora. "That's their objective."

One problem though is timing. The first debate is only two weeks before Election Day.

Lauren Gray, the campaign manager for Himes, issued a statement saying, "The groups that organize the debates asked for late October dates when voters are paying the most attention."

Congress was scheduled to be in session for most of September and the first two weeks of October.
