Petition to bring NYC ferry service to Canarsie gathers 6,000 signatures

A longtime Canarsie resident gathered over 6,000 signatures for a petition to bring NYC ferry service to Canarsie Pier during the L train shutdown.
Ferry advocate Marc Want says that a ferry is the answer because it's a direct route to Manhattan and will eliminate time it takes to get there.
Councilman Alan Maisel told News 12 Brooklyn he's also on board with a ferry in Canarsie.
The city's Economic Development Corporation will be launching feasibility studies for possible future sites of the ferries by the end of the year and says it will be depending on input from local leaders and the community.
The L train will continue to operate between Williamsburg and Canarsie during the 15-month shutdown starting next April.
Residents can voice their opinion on ferry service in Canarsie online by Oct. 15 here.
