The Westport Board of Education voted all in favor of moving students amid mold concerns at a middle school.
Sixth- and seventh-grade students at Coleytown Middle School will go to Bedford Middle School, and eighth-graders will go to Staples High School.
As News 12 reported, Coleytown M.S. was closed Thursday and Friday for environmental testing. But school officials want it closed for the next three to four weeks, during which time experts will get a comprehensive look at the school.
The school board held an emergency meeting Thursday evening following a health-related evacuation Monday. Several staff members and a student reported feeling sick. The next day, more than 50 students were absent. Dozens of others lined the halls for the nurse's office, complaining of symptoms similar to respiratory allergies.
Many parents placed the blame on mold because of the mold problems there over the summer, when more than half of the building needed some kind of remediation.
The Board of Education said that students will stay with their assigned teachers and that schedules will stay the same.
Staples High has added an additional lunch wave so eighth-grade students will be separate from high schoolers.
There was some concern from parents about a social media post expressing that Coleytown students were unwelcome at the other schools, but the issue was addressed and the Board of Education is hoping all are compliant moving forward.
