Over two dozen people were sworn in as American citizens Friday.
Twenty-six people from 18 different countries took the oath to become an American citizen.
The ceremony was held at the historic Steuben House in River Edge. George Washington once set up at the Steuben House during the Revolutionary War.
After the ceremony was over, many stepped outside to register to vote.
"There were people who came up to us before the ceremony and said, ‘We very much want to vote.  We look forward to voting and participating in this fight and make sure our voices are heard,’" said Barbara Ostroth, with the Bergen County League of Women Voters.
Ostroth said that so many people have signed up to vote this year that the board of elections has actually run out of forms a few times.
