Native New Yorker moves to Puerto Rico to help rebuild after Maria

A native New Yorker is continuing to help rebuild Puerto Rico one year after Hurricane Maria hit the island.
Charlotte Gossett Navarro is the director of the Hispanic Federation's Puerto Rico operations. Before moving to Puerto Rico, she helped gather and package supplies in New York City.
She says the best way to actually influence change is to listen to the needs of the communities on the ground and help assist them in doing the work they've already started.
Her federation has paired up with around 80 grassroots organizations to bring Puerto Rican residents the resources they need.
Navarro says she is staying in Puerto Rico working in the nonprofit sector for the long term.
