Police are disputing a Baldwin woman's claim that her tire was slashed in a bias attack.
Adwoa Lewis, 20, says she pulled onto her street around 11 p.m. Saturday night to find a group of teenage boys on the corner, with one lying in the road.
Lewis says she rolled her window down to make sure everyone was OK, when one of the boys started shouting at her.

“He was like, 'Trump 2016, we're gonna send them back, go home, you don't belong here,’ and stuff like that,” she says.
Lewis said she woke up Sunday morning to find that her car tire was flat. She says that in the tire, there was a note on a piece of paper that read, “Go home.”
The family says it is not really the flat tire they are worried about - they have a spare and are ready to replace it. They say it's more about the note, its threatening nature and what could be next.

Lewis’ dad, William, emigrated to New York from the Caribbean island of Grenada 30 years ago with his wife. The two worked hard, saved money, became citizens and raised three children. They purchased their Baldwin home 18 years ago.

“That's the kind of environment we're in right now, especially if you are an immigrant in this country. It's sad,” he says. “We work hard in this country, we had to build this country. Why are we treated this way? It's like we're not welcome. I am a citizen.”

William Lewis says he is close with many of his neighbors, but says recently, things have only become more difficult for immigrants.

“You have somebody in the White House professing those things, man. He's spurring people on to do those things. After being here for 30 years, this is my home. But I'll be honest with you, they're not gonna outrun me. I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going anywhere,” he says.

Police investigated the incident as a bias crime, but say the tire was not slashed.
