Parents make final rush to buy back-to-school supplies
With most New Jersey schools set to start the new school year next week, parents across the Garden State are making their final push to buy their children school supplies.
“It gives me so much anxiety, back-to-school shopping,” says mother Sonya Frontin, who was with her first-grade daughter shopping at Target Tuesday.
Shopping for the new school year is the second biggest retail event of the year, according to consumer experts. Families are expected to spend an average of $500 on back-to-school items.
Parents were out in full force Tuesday getting supplies. Many say that they hope to have it done before the Labor Day holiday.
“I absolutely do not want to be doing back-to-school shopping this weekend,” Frontin says. “I know it’s going to be pandemonium.”
Americans as a whole are expected to spend $28 billion this year on school supplies. Experts say most of the money is spent on new clothing.
