Two men were sentenced for their roles in the explosion of a marijuana grow house in Kingsbridge that killed a beloved FDNY battalion chief.
Through their lawyers, defendants Garivaldi Castillo and Julio Salcedo apologized to Battalion Chief Michael Fahy's widow, parents and the FDNY for the 2016 explosion at West 234th Street that injured dozens and killed Fahy.
Salcedo, who authorities say was responsible for maintaining the grow house, was sentenced up to four years in prison for manslaughter and up to four years for possession of marijuana.
Castillo, who prosecutors say was responsible for operating the grow house, was sentenced up to six years in prison for his role.
Both the families of the defendants and the victim's family were in court to hear the sentencing.
FDNY Lt. Richard Rubenacker delivered harsh words at the sentencing after he suffered a head injury in the explosion.
"You're not the only one I saved throughout my career," said Rubenacker. "As it stands today you are my last, and only regrettable one."
