Bob Stefanowski wins GOP primary for governor in upset

Bob Stefanowski, a former executive with UBS and General Electric, has won the race for the Republican nomination for governor — beating a handful of candidates that included a consistent front-runner.
Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton was looking to turn his steady lead in the polls into a primary win, but he failed to do so.
Boughton has held his current job since 2001 and unsuccessfully ran for lieutenant governor in 2010 and governor in 2014. He also overcame a benign brain tumor and has the GOP's official endorsement.
After conceding defeat, he called for party united and said he would support Republican candidates in the fall general elections.
Stefanowski and Boughton faced off against a field of Republicans that included David Stemerman, a former hedge fund manager; Tim Herbst, former first selectman of Trumbull; and Steve Obsitnik, an entrepreneur.
