A 15-year-old boy was stabbed multiple times inside of an East New York middle school, police say.
The incident happened Wednesday at I.S. 292 around 3:15 p.m.
Police say a 15-year-old and 16-year-old were involved in a dispute on Vermont Street outside of the school.
The 15-year-old ran into the school away from the other teen, but was followed, according to police.
Police say the 16-year-old stabbed the other teen at least three times before school safety officers became aware of the situation.
The teen was stabbed in the side of his head, chest, and arm. He was transported to Brookdale Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
The Department of Education responded to the incident in a statement saying, "Safety always comes first, and the NYPD and EMS immediately responded to this serious incident that occurred after school. We are working closely with NYPD and will provide additional safety supports to the school."
Police say the 16-year-old has been charged with assault and felony criminal possession of a weapon.
His identity will not be revealed since he is a minor, officials say.
