The State Bond Commission has unanimously approved a new $250,000 feasibility study to explore whether Norwalk needs another Metro-North train station.
One possibility for the stop would be at the city-owned Mechanic Street parking lot off Wall Street — a bustling, up-and-coming neighborhood.
There are already tracks from the Danbury branch running alongside the area.
"There are projects all over the place, apartments that are planned and developers coming in," says state Sen. Bob Duff. "Because they know this area is really underutilized."
People in the area Wednesday had mixed feelings about the potential for a new train station.
Some saw it as a way to bring in more people and business. Others, like local business owner Allen Moore, were worried about traffic and parking.
"As long as they provide parking for the surviving businesses, then may everything prosper," he says.
The New Haven line already stops in South Norwalk and East Norwalk.
