Nassau police say a man who was caught peering into a young woman's bedroom window assaulted a neighbor who tried to apprehend him.
It happened Friday night in Westbury. Police say the suspect, 42-year-old Allan Delfino, exposed himself as he stood in the backyard of a home on Plumtree Road while looking into a 23-year-old woman's bedroom window.
The woman saw Delfino and screamed, and police say Delfino ran off through her yard and over a fence. The screams alerted the woman's neighbor, a 36-year-old man, who saw the suspect fleeing.
Police say the neighbor tackled Delfino and tried to restrain him until police arrived. But they say Delfino punched the man in the face and ran away. Police were able to track him down.
Delfino, of Westbury, was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including assault, stalking, criminal trespass and public lewdness. He was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
The judge granted an order of protection for the man who Delfino is accused of assaulting, when he tried to stop Delfino from fleeing.
Delfino is expected back in court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
