Long Island is marking 22 years since TWA Flight 800 exploded, claiming all 230 lives on board.
Flight 800 had just taken off from Kennedy Airport bound for Paris when it exploded in the skies about 12 miles off shore in the Moriches area.
Fourteen Long Islanders were killed.
The event triggered intense debate over the cause of the explosion that still continues today.
Federal investigators concluded that a spark ignited the plane's center fuel tank causing a massive explosion. Others insist the jetliner was shot down by a missile.
