Jurors continued to deliberate Monday in the corruption retrial of former state Sen. Dean Skelos, of Rockville Centre.
Skelos arrived at the courthouse Monday morning looking rather relaxed, and said he was feeling good. Jurors worked late into the afternoon.
Prosecutors allege Skelos exchanged his once-powerful influence and votes in Albany as the state Senate majority leader for cash and no-show jobs for his son, Adam Skelos.
Inside the deliberation room on the 26th floor of the federal courthouse in Manhattan, jurors sorted through hundreds of pages of testimony from three prosecution witnesses, plus Dean Skelos' own words on the witness stand, assorted emails and a wiretapped phone conversation between Dean Skelos and ex-Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano that centered on Adam Skelos.
The Skeloses were found guilty in 2015, but the conviction was overturned after the Supreme Court redefined one of the charges of which they were convicted.
The Skeloses continue to proclaim their innocence.
At one point Monday, a juror informed Judge Kimba Wood that she wanted to be replaced because she has a prearranged vacation coming up. Judge Wood told the juror to work through Thursday afternoon, and if the jury can't reach a verdict by then, an alternative juror will be assigned. In that case, the entire jury would have to restart deliberations from the beginning.
