12 people rescued in Prospect-Lefferts Garden fire

Twelve people were rescued Sunday when a fire broke out at a residential building in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
The fire broke out in the second and third floors of the building on Flatbush Avenue.
Crews responded to the scene just before 3 p.m. and had the fire completely under control within 40 minutes.
Bystanders tell News 12 that people were stuck in the building, waving their hands to alert fire crews that they needed help.
The 12 people were treated for minor injuries.
Electricity to the building has been cut as investigators work to determine the cause of the blaze. Displaced residents are being assisted.
